Natural Language Processing Hackathon

Our team hosted a dynamic hackathon at Brockholes Nature Reserve, bringing together experts from Lancashire and South Cumbria to drive the next phase of the regional Secure Data Environment (SDE) program.

Key Highlights:

  • Exploring Natural language processing (NLP) and Large Language Models – discussed infrastructure, development, and real-world applications in an interdisciplinary brainstorming session.
  • Strategic Planning for SDE Phase 2 – Leveraging our region-scale Databricks infrastructure and Kubernetes-based Trusted Research Environment to enhance efficiency, patient safety, and value generation.
  • Collaboration with CogStack – Engaging with Richard Dobson, Prof. James Teo, and Dr Tom Searle to integrate with our existing OMOP work.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Participation – Representatives from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust, and Lancaster University joined to exchange ideas and build innovative solutions for healthcare data science.

Special thanks to our speakers, Prof. Vishnu Chandrabalan and Dr Stephen Dobson, and to all participants for their contributions. The event showcased the power of collaboration in shaping the future of healthcare and data science in the region.
