Public Advisory and Accountability Group (PAAG)

The Public Advisory and Accountability Group (PAAG) plays a vital role in the Secure Data Environment (SDE) programme, ensuring that Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) is well-structured, meaningful, and aligned with wider initiatives across Lancashire and South Cumbria. Our work is closely connected to the Integrated Care Board’s (ICB) strategy for public involvement in data and digital projects.

By joining PAAG, you can help:

  • Advise – Share insights and feedback to shape our PPIE activities.

Making Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Meaningful

PPIE (Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement) can have a real impact when different parts of the system work together in a positive feedback loop. The image illustrates how engagement, communication, collaboration, and accountability create a cycle of meaningful involvement.

  1. Community Engagement – The process begins with meaningful engagement with communities, ensuring they have the support and training needed to contribute effectively. This builds trust and a sense of shared purpose.
  2. Expert Analysis and Communication – Research and communications expertise are then integrated, making sure that insights from the public are understood and shared in ways that influence decision-making.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement – By building relationships and joint strategies with system stakeholders, public voices can shape policies, research, and services.
  4. Commitment and Accountability – Finally, for PPIE to truly make a difference, there must be accountability. Evidence of impact should be gathered, shared, and used to drive meaningful change across the entire system—improving health, care, and wellbeing for individuals and communities.

This interconnected approach ensures that patient and public involvement is not just a tick-box exercise but a powerful force for transforming health and care.
